Flash In The Pan: Parboiled

Lao soung

Tim was so happy and proud. He had been waiting 3 months and the day had finally arrived. The Winchesters, a missionary family who had been serving God in Thailand for 3 years, were coming for supper tonight. In an effort to make them feel at home, he had Googled Thai cuisine and went to the World Market to buy all of the ingredients. His wife thought that he was crazy, but he told her if the Winchesters could eat it, so could they. When the Winchesters  arrived, Tim and his family sat intently, listening to their stories. At last Tim seated them at the table and began to place the food. Suddenly, the Winchesters got up and stormed out of the house, vowing to never to return. As they sat dejected, Tim’s wife asked what he had cooked. “Just monkey brains and parboiled vegetables” he replied.

Hope you enjoyed this episode of Flash in the Pan. The word was parboiled and the maximum word count was 150. I came in at 145. To see what others are writing or to learn to do flash fiction, please visit the flash link.
